The Good Son

Today mother and father reminded me that while I am their first born, I am far from their favorite son. I will never understand why, but regardless of his shortcomings that title will always be worn by the prodigal twin. Growing up it was always Kai this and Kai that. Kai has the best grades. Kai won the citizenship award. Kai is making the family look good. Why can't you be more like Kai? Honestly, it was sickening. Not that it's any better now even though he's essentially disowned the entire family. He thinks we aren't good enough for him. As if... I reached out to him not long ago. It's no secret that this planet is on its last leg. We'll need to leave if we want to survive. I have a plan; I'm just missing a few essential items and I'm certain that my do-gooder brother either has what I need or knows where to find it. I even assured him that he and his little pet orphan would have a guaranteed place on our escape vessel in exchange for his help. "I'll not be a party to your plot, Ronin, whatever that may be!" That's what he said before he turned his back on me and walked away. The nerve! No matter. I always get what I want. This time is no different. And if my good for nothing brother doesn't want to help me, I've no need for him. He'll be dealt with accordingly. As will mommy and daddy. They're just taking up space, after all, and I'll be needing my inheritance soon.
